Dr. Mitchell Dang is a medical optometrist and primary eye care provider in Redwood City, CA serving the Peninsula and the greater Bay Area.

About Dr. Dang

Dr. Mitchell Dang is a comprehensive eye care optometrist with an emphasis on ocular disease management. He is licensed in California to manage and treat a wide range of ocular conditions, including primary open-angle glaucoma in adults. He is also certified to prescribe Corneal Refractive Therapy lenses to control myopia. Whether helping you see your best with glasses and contact lenses or managing a chronic eye condition, he is dedicated to ensuring you receive the highest standard of care.

Dr. Dang was born and raised in the Bay Area and is excited to serve the community where he grew up. His foundation in healthcare began at Santa Clara University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Public Health. Before entering the clinical field, he explored the intersection of medicine and innovation within the Silicon Valley tech sector. By working at a health technology company, he gained a unique understanding of how digital tools can bridge the gap between patients and their care—invaluable insights he continues to integrate into his daily practice to improve patient communication.

He earned his Doctor of Optometry from the Arizona College of Optometry, graduating with both clinical and academic honors and maintaining a four-year membership in the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. His clinical training included rotations at the American Lake Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Midwestern University Eye Institute, and the Community Health Centers of the Central Coast.

Following his doctoral degree, Dr. Dang completed a UC Berkeley-affiliated residency at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. In this rigorous program, he gained extensive experience managing complex conditions, including anterior segment diseases such as uveitis and keratitis, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and neuro-ophthalmic disorders. He also performed low-vision examinations, helping patients with severe sight loss reclaim their independence. It was here that he became a dedicated lifelong learner, eventually giving lectures, writing case reports, and presenting posters at national conferences.

Dr. Dang believes that the highest standard of care is achieved through evidence-based medicine and the use of cutting-edge diagnostic imaging. However, he maintains that technology is most effective when paired with thorough patient education. He makes it his mission to ensure his patients are not just treated, but are fully involved in their care plan—ensuring that every individual is an informed, active participant in their own ocular health journey.

Outside the Clinic When he is not in the clinic, Dr. Dang prioritizes an active lifestyle and enjoys spending time outdoors. While he is a regular at the gym, he has recently channeled his focus into golf. He finds a compelling similarity between the sport and his medical career: both demand precision, focus, and the humility of a lifelong learner. An avid food enthusiast, Dr. Dang spends his weekends exploring the Bay Area’s diverse culinary scene. His camera roll is almost exclusively a digital archive of restaurant discoveries. Above all, he is a loyal supporter of his local sports teams and makes it a point to head to the arena every season to cheer on the Golden State Warriors in person!
