Insurance
At Sequoia Eye Group our mission is to provide the best possible eye care to as many patients as we can serve. We are thankful for insurance providers because without them, the majority of our patients would simply be unable to afford quality health care.
While a majority of insurance plans are fine, some types may not always have the patients best interests in mind. Sometimes, in order to cut costs, plans will place limitations on the kind of care a patient can receive. Some plans that focus on cost reduction, often HMO plans, can even dictate which doctors a patient can see, or when and what types of examinations and tests can be performed. These plans limit what kind of medications patients can take, or require “prior authorizations” for various treatments and testing. By requiring referral requests and prior authorizations for treatment or testing, these plans risk delaying care. They also pass the cost of obtaining care to the patient or to the providers. In the end, participating in these plans redirects the focus, attention, and the resources of physicians away from patients, and more toward administrative bureaucracy and paperwork.
Put simply, some types of plans restrict physicians from giving patients the highest level of care that we were trained to deliver.
We think each patient deserves the best, and we will only partner with insurance plans that agree with us. Often times, these plans are PPO plans.
Our patients agree with our philosophy. Many of our patients who unknowingly enrolled these restricting cost-cutting insurance policies like Kaiser or other HMOs, and are “out of network” for us. However these patients value high quality care that we deliver, and choose to see us anyway, sometimes having to pay out of of pocket to do so.
Below is a list of major insurances we work with. If you have Medicare, we work with all Medicare secondary insurances.
